The Cabinet of Ministers approved bills that regulate the work of jury judges. Prime Minister of Ukraine Oleksiy Honcharuk stated this.
The jury will be given a determination of the guilt or innocence of those accused of criminal proceedings, which provides for the punishment of imprisonment for a term of ten years to life imprisonment.
“We simplify the procedure for compiling a list of jurors: we exclude local councils from the procedure for its formation that have been delaying the approval of lists for months. We transfer these responsibilities directly to the directions of the State Judicial Administration,” - Honcharuk wrote.
The Cabinet of Ministers also reduced the hearing period from 1.5 years to 1.5 months; the number of jurors was increased from three to seven; the number of judges considering the case was reduced from two to one.
The jury verdict can be appealed on appeal.
As we reported before, Cabinet of Ministers has simplified the acquisition of Ukrainian citizenship for volunteers who participated in the combat actions in Donbas.
