The U.S. Armed Forces begin drills for strategic nuclear troops called Global Thunder. This is mentioned in the U.S. STRATCOM release. According to the Command’s representative Brian Maguire, the U.S. warned Russia that the drills would take place.

‘Under the New START agreement, the U.S. and Russia are obliged to inform each other about large nuclear drills, so Russia has been warned in advance,’ he said.

According to Maguire, during the exercises, the STRATCOM will consider capabilities of space forces, surveillance systems, global strike systems, anti-missile defense and cyber security

Such exercises take place every year, the official added.
