Germany must fulfill its obligations to NATO and make a greater contribution to the Alliance's defense budget. This was announced by German Chancellor Angela Merkel, reports Reuters.
"Commitments must be fulfilled, and member states will demand this from us. I think they're right that Germany should fulfill its commitments," said Merkel.
It is noted that the NATO countries are encouraged to contribute to the Alliance's defense budget funds in the amount of 2% of GDP.
Earlier it was reported that Angela Merkel's candidacy was officially nominated for the parliamentary elections at the regional congress of Christian Democratic Union, according to Spiegel. Elections will take place in September this year.
