German Finance Minister Brigitte Zypries said on Monday the ministry does not want to start the trade war with the united States but it will be ready to react if new US sanctions against Russia indirectly “hit” German companies, reports DeutsheWelle.
“Americans cannot fine German enterprises for their business in another country,” she said to journalists of Funke media group.
At the same time, Zypries expressed an opinion that new US sanctions violate international law and stressed that Germany “does not want, of course, any trade war,” but European Commission is now considering possible counter measures.
As it was reported earlier US sanctions against Russia could hurt German business, according to Zypries. Berlin does not want a trade war with the U.S. due to implementation of new restrictive measures against the Kremlin, according to her.
