Germany refused to participate in the mission on the provision of navigation security in the Persian Gulf, as DW reported.

Germany’s Foreign Minister Heiko Maas said in Warsaw that Germany would not take part in the U.S. mission near Iran in the Persian Gulf.

“We consider the strategy of maximum pressure wrong. We don’t want military escalation, we will continue supporting diplomatic steps,” Maas said.

It should be noted that earlier Foreign Minister of Britain Jeremy Hunt claimed intentions to organize naval mission in the Persian Gulf led by Europe amid capture of the British tanker by Iran.

On July 30, the U.S. asked Germany to join France and Great Britain participate in the mission on provision of navigation security in the Persian Gulf.
