Germany is ready to finance the restoration of the destroyed infrastructure of Donbas. This was stated by German Foreign Minister Sigmar Gabriel at breakfast with representatives of business circles of Russia and Germany during the Munich Security Conference, the BBC reported.
Also, Gabriel said that it is necessary to make efforts to improve the lives of people in the east of Ukraine.
In addition, the politician also spoke for launching the work of the UN peacekeeping mission in Donbas.
"The idea of the UN peacekeeping mission has been lying on the table for six months already, we need to try to speed it up," the German minister said.
At the same time, Gabriel spoke in favor of a phased withdrawal of sanctions from Russia in the event of the withdrawal of heavy weapons in Donbas and the beginning of the work of UN peacekeeping mission.
"If we manage to withdraw heavy weapons from the east of Ukraine, then it will be necessary to lift sanctions step by step," the politician added.
