Germany and France have offered to invite Russian President Vladimir Putin to the summit of EU heads of state. It was reported by Сorinspired.

"After the summit between U.S. President Joe Biden and Vladimir Putin in Geneva, Germany and France called on the European Union to develop a new strategy for closer engagement with Russia to strengthen discussions with Moscow," the message reads.

Diplomats stated that German Chancellor Angela Merkel hopes that the European Union will consider inviting the Russian President to participate in a summit with EU leaders, an initiative supported by French President Emmanuel Macron.

As we reported earlier, German Chancellor Angela Merkel and President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky held a phone conversation, marking the anniversary of the 1941 Nazi invasion in the USSR.

During the phone call, Merkel invited Zelensky to discuss the bilateral relations and peaceful solution to the conflict in Donbas; press service of the Office of the President of Ukraine reported that on June 22.
