The European Commission (EC) appointed German politician Elmar Brok as Special Advisor of EC President Jean-Claude Juncker on Ukraine as Interfax-Ukraine reported citing EC Representative Mina Andreeva.
“The European Commission made a decision to appoint Elmar Brok as Special Advisor of the President (Juncker, - 112.international) on relations with Ukraine due to his knowledge in this sphere. This decision comes into force immediately,” Andreeva said.
She also read out the text of the letter of President of the European Commission Donald Tusk and President of the European Council Donald Tusk dated September 3 addressed to Oleksiy Honcharuk, the newly appointed Prime Minister of Ukraine. They congratulated him on assuming of the office. Andreeva added that they always may count on the support of the independence, sovereignty and territorial integrity of Ukraine by the EU.
Besides, Tuck and Juncker assured Honcharuk that the EU will continue the policy of the non-recognition of illegal annexation of Crimea.
Elmar Brok is a German politician. He was the MEP since 1980 up to 2019. He is well known as head of the EP Committee on Foreign Affairs. He takes the active pro-Ukrainian position.
On September 2, new Ambassador of the United Kingdom and Northern Ireland Melinda Simmons arrived in Ukraine. The British diplomat confirmed the consistent unchanged position of the government of the United Kingdom on political and practical support of Ukraine, first of all, on the settlement of Donbas Conflict.
