German Foreign Minister Annalena Baerbock will arrive in Kyiv on January 17 at the invitation of the Ukrainian Foreign Minister Dmytro Kuleba as Deutsche Welle reported citing Spokesperson of the Ukrainian Foreign Ministry Oleh Nikolenko.

It is reported that the main topics of the meetings will be the strengthening of bilateral cooperation, countering energy threats, support for Ukraine against the background of the aggressive actions of Russia, the activation of the peaceful settlement of the conflict, and the resumption of the Normandy format (Ukraine, Russia, Germany, and France).

Meanwhile, Russian Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Maria Zakharova said that Baerbok will arrive in Moscow on January 18 for talks with Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov. According to her, the ministers will meet in person for the first time and discuss Russian proposals on security issues, which include the requirement for the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) not to expand and accept Ukraine as a member.

As it was reported, the first round of talks between the United States and Russia ended in Geneva on the evening of January 9. The meeting lasted two hours. The second round of dialogue began on January 10 and lasted more than 7.5 hours. The meeting took place at the US Permanent Mission in Geneva. During the consultations, the parties took a break several times.

Besides, Russia assured the US at talks in Geneva that it has no plans to invade Ukraine and sees no grounds for escalation.

After that, US Deputy State Secretary Wendy Sherman stated that the US will not allow anyone to close the door on any country to NATO.
