Lifting of sanctions against Russia depends on progress of the implementation of Minsk agreements to resolve the conflict in the east of Ukraine. This was stated by the new Minister of Foreign Affairs of Germany, Sigmar Gabriel, at a joint press conference with the Foreign Minister of France Jean-Marc Ayrault, according to Reuters.

"We in Germany and France have a clear position on sanctions ... We want the implementation of the Minsk peace process ... This is the only way for the lifting of sanctions",  he said.

In addition, Gabriel stressed that Germany and France should express strong and unified position on certain issues. In particular, he noted that France and Germany will create a bilateral working group to address the issues of Ukraine and Russia.

Note, previously the head of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Hungary Peter Siyatro called for the lifting of sanctions against Russia.

Britain will insist in the European Union on maintaining sanctions against Russia until Minsk agreement is implemented. This was reported by British Prime Minister Theresa May.

Minister for European Integration of Ukraine Ivanna Klympush-Tsintsadze believes that the lifting of sanctions against Russia before it will fulfill all the conditions of the Minsk agreements, will be a catastrophic mistake for the West.
