Mikheil Janelidze, the Foreign Minister of Georgia claimed that there were no contacts with the Ukrainian Foreign Ministry towards the detention of Mikheil Saakashvili, the former president of Georgia as Interfax-Ukraine reported.
'The cooperation of Georgia and Ukraine on the extradition of Saakashvili to Georgia takes place within the legal framework. If there is the communication on this issue then it is held by the proper ministries', Janelidze said.
Earlier Thea Tsulukiani, the Minister of Justice of Georgia claimed that the demand on the detention and extradition of Saakashvili from Kyiv to Tbilisi was sent to the Ukrainian Ministry of Justice and Prosecutor General's Office.
At the moment the case on the excess of the power by Saakashvili when he was the president of Georgia is considered at the Tbilisi City Court. The issue is about the order on the premature release of four police officers accused of the murder of the worker of the 'Bank of Georgia' in 2006.
Also, the court considers the criminal cases against Saakashvili on the embezzlement, forceful crackdown of the opposition protest in Tbilisi in 2007 and capture of the TV Company 'Imedi'.
As we reported earlier, on Friday night the enforcement officers detained ex-governor of Odesa region Mikheil Saakashvili and took him to the Security Service department, where he was placed in a detention facility. Later it was reported that he is kept at the detention center.
At the moment the protesters gathered near the SBU in Kyiv where Saakashvili is held. The supporters of the politicians began to organize the stage for the speeches and to build the barricade. Later Saakashvili asked the people to continue the peaceful protests through the advocate. Also, he went on the termless hunger strike.
