Georgian Dream party founder Ivanishvili leaves politics

Bidzina Ivanishvili, the founder and long-standing leader of Georgian Dream party announced his withdrawal from political life. The press office of the party published his letter on Facebook.

"I have decided to leave the party for good, and withdraw from its management completely. I leave both the office of the party's leader and the party itself, returning to everyday life", Ivanishvili wrote. 

According to the official, now that his political force claimed victory in the parliamentary election in 2020, his mission is "complete".

"It's just a few weeks before I turn 65, and it's another one of the most important factors in my decision to finish my political career", Ivanishvili added. 

The Georgian Dream party was established in 2011. In 2012, it gained seats in the Georgian Parliament for the first time. Currently, it holds 90 of the 150 seats.
