General strike in Catalonia: most mass protest against police

People protest near police stations, General Headquarters of the People’s Party in Barcelona and blocked more than 40 highways

The General strike takes place in Catalonia as a mark of protest against violent measures of the police controlled by Madrid on October 1. La Vanguardia, El Pais, Directa broadcast the protest actions.

According to them, the general strike began on the night of October 3.

The protesters blocked 47 highways. Moreover, the critical traffic jams are observed at four highways and three highways are extra light loaded. The minimum service of the passengers takes place only in the rush hours by the subway, ground transport and railway. The airports work routinely. The general strike was supported by the main ports of Catalonia in Barcelona and Tarragona.

The farmers and workers of the trade industry also strike today and only the minimal service is provided in the trade sector.

The thousands of the Catalans protest near the police stations, the General Headquarters of the People’s Party in Barcelona and near the entry to Ramon Llull School, the voting station that was harmed the most from the police. About 500 000 of people gathered there.

The general strike is supported by the authorities of Catalonia and the citizens are not afraid to protest because it was promised that they will not suffer from the economic sanctions. The strike is peaceful and no incidents are reported.

Almost 900 people suffered at the confrontations with the police on October 1 defending their rights to hold the referendum for independence of Catalonia. 90% of people voted for the independence and the authorities promised to announce the independence of the region.
