Despite the coronavirus pandemic, the European Parliament is ready to further discuss the initiative of the Chairman of the Political Council of Opposition Platform - For Life Party Viktor Medvedchuk to create a Parliamentary Dimension of the Normandy format. French Senator Sebastian Moran stated this.
According to him, it is an important way to resolve the conflict in Donbas. Moran expressed hope that after the pandemic, representatives of the parliaments of Ukraine, Russia, France, and Germany will continue this dialogue.
“We are interested in finding the best solutions to resolve this situation. Unfortunately, during the pandemic, we cannot do this, but as soon as it ends, we will gather together to continue our discussion. Everyone should willfully express their own opinion on how we can reach peace. I saw that even in March, despite the pandemic, the conflict in Donbas continued. Therefore, we are waiting very much for the pandemic period to end, and we will all come together to look for solutions and finally reach peace in Ukraine,” Moran said.
Earlier, Bundestag parliamentarian Robbie Schlund said it was necessary to hold Normandy format meeting in the framework of Parliamentary Dimension after the end of the ‘corona crisis.’
Viktor Medvedchuk has consistently advocated the restoration of peace in Donbas. It was he who proposed the idea of inter-parliamentary dialogue in the Normandy format. Medvedchuk also headed the inter-factional parliamentary association in the Verkhovna Rada “Inter-Parliamentary Dialogue for Peace: Ukraine - Russia - Germany – France”. It should help to attract the parliaments of the countries of the Normandy format to resolve the conflict in the Donbas.
The meetings have already been held with MEPs of the European Parliament, French senators, members of the German Bundestag, and the State Duma. They al, as well as Russian President Vladimir Putin, assessed positively these peace initiatives.
