The parliamentary dimension of the Normandy format should contribute to the efforts of the heads of state of the Normandy Four to resolve the situation in Ukraine. This was announced by the official representative of the French Foreign Ministry Olivier Gauvin, commenting on the proposal of the chairman of the political council of the party "Opposition Platform - For Life", MP Viktor Medvedchuk. The latter offered to set the meeting of parliamentarians of Ukraine, Russia, France and Germany, TASS reports.
"It seems to us that such an initiative should support the efforts made by the tripartite contact group and the heads of state and government of the Normandy format,” the French diplomat said.
At the same time, he noted that "this is an initiative of parliamentarians, who themselves should clarify their intentions."
As we reported before, German Chancellor Angela Merkel and French President Emmanuel Macron will support the implementation of the proposal of the Chairman of the Political Council of the Opposition Platform - For Life Party, MP Viktor Medvedchuk, to create an inter-factional parliamentary association, Inter-Parliamentary Dialogue for Peace: Ukraine - Russia - Germany - France. Russian President Vladimir Putin expressed this meaning during a meeting with Medvedchuk and State Duma Speaker Vyacheslav Volodin, the Kremlin’s press service reports.
