France has decided to cancel the meeting of its Minister of the Armed Forces, Florence Parley, with her British counterpart Ben Wallace after Australia abandoned a submarine order with Paris in favor of a deal with Washington and London. It was reported by The Guardian.
Mr Parley personally made the decision to cancel the bilateral meeting with British Secretary of Defense Ben Wallace.
The multi-billion dollar submarine contract cancellation in 2016 caused a diplomatic crisis, and Paris recalled ambassadors from Washington and Canberra.
France claims it has not been consulted by its allies, but Australia has stated that it had exposed concerns about the contract to Paris for months.
A French government spokesman said French President Emmanuel Macron and US President Joe Biden will speak on the phone in the coming days to discuss the crisis.
Australia on Wednesday cancelled a multibillion-dollar deal for conventional French submarines to enter a strategic Indo-Pacific alliance with the United States and Britain in which it will obtain US nuclear-powered submarines.
