France and Germany, as members of the Normandy format, are monitoring the situation on the border between Ukraine and Russia and making efforts to prevent escalation. Interfax-Ukraine reports citing French Minister of the Armed Forces Florence Parly during a joint press conference with German Minister of Defense Annegret Kramp-Karrenbauer in Paris.
"Our attention has been focused on Ukraine not only for a few days, but for many months now, and we have been watching Russia's growing presence and activity with great vigilance. We maintain close contact (with Germany). President Macron and Chancellor Merkel discuss this issue regularly. President Zelensky was in Paris last Friday. And we took advantage of this visit to exchange views between Chancellor Merkel and Presidents Macron and Zelensky," the French Minister of the Armed Forces said.
She reminded that the political advisers of the leaders of the Normandy format countries held a meeting after Zelensky visited Paris. According to Parly, French President Emmanuel Macron and German Chancellor Angela Merkel are personally working to continue diplomatic contacts to avoid any escalation in the region.
As it was reported earlier, German Chancellor Angela Merkel stated she openly criticizes Russian President Vladimir Putin in personal conversations.
