France and Germany will initiate another Normandy format meeting in the next few weeks. President of the French Republic Emmanuel Macron announced this today in Paris during a press conference following a meeting with the European Commission to present the priorities of the French presidency of the EU for the next six months, Ukrinform reports.
“We will offer our common view on the architecture of European security, and we are already doing this in the current situation, for example, in the case of Ukraine. This is the Normandy format. With Chancellor Scholz (Federal Chancellor of Germany Olaf Scholz - ed.) we will held another meeting in the coming weeks. The geopolitical situation in the region requires that Europe and the EU offer their vision, act and sit down at the negotiating table with all participants in order to move forward in these key directions, "Macron said.
He added that one of the priorities of the French Presidency of the EU Council will be the completion of the EU's strategic compass, which should prioritize the development of Europe's common security and defense capabilities.
"We in Europe have a common position on the need to act in a more coordinated manner. We have common approaches to the defense industry, joint projects that we will push forward. This will strengthen our strategic autonomy, give the opportunity to have a powerful European defense and greater technical and technological autonomy. This is an absolutely key area, "the French President emphasized.
