Former player of Dynamo Kyiv football team Kakha Kaladze is to become the new mayor of Tbilisi, Georgia the Ekho Kavkaza reports with the link to the preliminary results.

It is said that Kaladze received 51.4% of votes, while two of his closest competitors received 17.53% and 16.33% respectively. 13 people ran for the post of mayor.

Kakha Kaladze represents the political party Georgian Dream that was founded in 2012 as opposition to then-president of Georgia Mikheil Saakashvili.

Kakhaber "Kakha" Kaladze is a Georgian politician and retired footballer, who played as a defender. He played for the Georgia national team from 1996 to 2011. He also played for Dynamo Kyiv, Milan, and Genoa.
