The Directorate General for consular service of Ukraine's Foreign Ministry confirmed the detention of the ship under the Ukrainian flag and three Ukrainians, the members of the crew in Greece. Vasyl Kyrylych, the Head of Department of Consular Support claimed this as Interfax-Ukraine reported.
"The Coast Guard of Greek city Patras reported on the detention of a ship under Ukrainian flag and its crew, three Ukrainians on the suspicion in the transportation of illegal migrants," he said.
According to him, the initial stages of the investigation continue and the measures on the consular provision on the case are assumed.
Earlier we reported that a Ukrainian vessel with 65 migrants was intercepted off the shores of Western Greece.
Earlier we also reported that 214 Ukrainian sailors were imprisoned in Greece, India, Spain, Libya, Oman, and Sri-Lanka as the Foreign Ministry of Ukraine reported.
According to BIMCO and ISF, 69,000 Ukrainians worked on foreign ships in 2015. Ukraine was enlisted to the TOP-6 largest supplier of the workforce to the ship owners.
