First detachments of the Russian military arrived in Kazakhstan. These are officially recognized as part of the peacekeeping force of the Collective Security Treaty Organization, writes RIA Novosti.

Earlier, countries of the Treaty claimed they would send their forces to Kzakhstan within a peacekeeping mission.

In the beginning of 2022, protests erupted in Kazakhstan after the increase in the price of liquefied gas. Demonstrators announced an indefinite action. Demands to reduce the price of gas have grown into calls for the resignation of the president and government. The Internet has been shut down in the country, law enforcement agencies seized military equipment, make arrests. Kazakh TV channels suspended broadcasting.

After a couple of days of anti-government protests, the Cabinet of Kazakhstan has filed a resignation letter, and President Kasym-Jomart Tokayev accepted it.

On January 5, a state of emergency was declared all over Kazakhstan amid massive fuel price protests.

Besides, the Collective Security Treaty Organization (CSTO), which includes six post-Soviet states, has approved the deployment of troops into Kazakhstan, where mass protests accompanied by riots are currently taking place.

At least 30 people deceased in the street flights, and some 2,000 were detained.
