Finland is ready to provide a platform for a bilateral meeting of the leaders of the United States and Russia. This was stated by Finnish Foreign Minister Pekka Haavisto during a meeting with US Secretary of State Anthony Blinken, reports Yle.
"We have stated in general terms that we can offer all the services necessary for the development of bilateral relations between the great powers," said the head of the Finnish foreign ministry.
He noted that Finland during the conversation made it clear that from its point of view it would be positive if the negotiations took place, and it does not matter where it happens. In particular, the last meeting of the heads of Russia and the United States took place in Helsinki.
"Finland is ready to help. Both sides are aware of this. The most important thing is that the meeting takes place," Haavisto added.
Earlier, US President Joe Biden confirmed that he expects to meet with Russian President Vladimir Putin in the near future. Then the exact place and time of the summit was unknown.
President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky had also commented on the likely meeting of US Presidents Joe Biden and Russian Presidents Vladimir Putin.
"As for the probable meeting of the presidents of the United States and Russia. What are the risks I see? First, I think this meeting is necessary. It is up to them to decide, but still. Second, President Biden knows my position. We discussed it with the US Secretary of State that they will discuss Ukrainian issues only in the space and in the agenda that they will agree with us before," Zelensky said during a press conference on the second anniversary of the election.
