Explosions in barracks in Equatorial Guinea: Number of casualties reaches 98

The number of people who lost their lives in explosions in the barracks in the Equatorial Guinea reached 98. Reuters wrote that citing the country's Healthcare Ministry.

The data was presented after the search and rescue works in the buildings were over. The current number of victims has exceeded the previous estimate of 31 people by more than three times. 

According to the Defense Ministry, at least 615 people were wounded in the explosions that took place after the fire at Nkoantoma military base in Bata town. 299 injured people are staying in hospitals.

President Teodoro Obian Nguema believes that the reason for the tragedy was careless handling of dynamite. According to him, the explosions damageds almost every building in Bata, with more than 250,000 residents in the town.

Earlier, on March 9, the Defense Ministry of Equatorial Guinea claimed that a fire took place at a storage site near the military base in Bata, which resulted in an explosion of large-caliber ammunition, which was kept there.
