Israel launches world's fastest Covid vaccination campaign, nearing end of pandemic
13:07, 6 April 2021

The vaccination campaign in Israel was the fastest and most successful - vaccines allowed the country to "reopen" the economy, reopening schools (partially) and kindergartens. However, the conditions for returning to normal life have also changed: concerts, gyms, transport, and other privileges are available for holders of Covid certificates. Here's how the return to normal life in Israel goes.

What places are opened after the lockdown

Since last month, access to gyms, hotels, theaters, and concerts has been available to people who have a "green pass" - an app that proves that people have been fully vaccinated or immune.

The wearing of masks on the street in Israel is still compulsory. The Ministry of Health fears that if the requirement is canceled, people will stop wearing masks in enclosed spaces. Also, for the time being, children remain unvaccinated, which puts their health at risk.

From today, classes were resumed in schools and kindergartens in all settlements of the country, however, subject to restrictions. In kindergartens, classes are held six times a week, in the first three grades of primary schools - five times a week without dividing into groups, in the fourth grade, they are taught five times a week with a class divided into two groups. From 5th to 12th grade, classes are taught two to three times a week with the division of the class in half.

The limit of 3 thousand passengers a day arriving at the Ben Gurion airport in Tel Aviv was removed. The Ben Gurion Airport railway station was opened only for the vaccinated. At the same time, Israel has maintained strict entry restrictions for foreign travelers to avoid the spread of mutated strains of the coronavirus.

It is also possible to stay in a hotel in Israel only by proving that you have been vaccinated.

The lifting of restrictions was reflected in the situation in cities: for example, in Tel Aviv, the beaches were filled, and in bars and restaurants in the evening, thousands of people were present, reports The Guardian.

Covid certificates for a return to social life

In Israel, three types of Covid certificates are issued: a vaccination certificate, a green pass, and a certificate of recovery. Documents can be on paper or displayed in the application.

Children under 16 who have recovered from Covid-19 can be added to their parents' documents.

Vaccination certificate is evidence that you have been vaccinated. The certificate is issued to those who received the second dose of vaccine, it comes into force one week after receiving the second dose and is valid for six months.

The green pass can be received by the vaccinated one week after receiving the second dose and recovered. If the pass is not in the application but is printed, you also need to show the ID.

The certificate of recovery is issued to those who are determined to have recovered, it is valid until 30.6.2021.

The holder of the pass is allowed access to many places inaccessible to others, including gyms, restaurants, theaters and cinemas, sports facilities, hotels, and cultural events.

Since the system went live, a number of issues have been reported. Privileges are not provided without these documents, but foreign citizens cannot get a pass, because they are not covered by insurance.

Morbidity and vaccination

Israel is the world leader in the rate of vaccination of the population. Now in Israel, all citizens over 16 years old are invited to vaccinate.

As of April 5, the first dose of the coronavirus vaccine was received by 5 269 052 people (about 12 thousand per day), the second dose – by 4 839 840 people (about 22 thousand per day). The population of Israel is 9 million people.

More than 52% of the population and more than 72% of the adult population (over 16 years old) are fully vaccinated. The first vaccination was received by about 57% of Israelis, about 79% of the adult population.

The Department of Health has said it is ready to start vaccinating teens as soon as the Pfizer vaccine receives FDA and EMA approval.

The situation with the coronavirus: 261 people were infected in a day, 5232 people are currently infected. It was also reported recently that as new cases of coronavirus decline, Israeli hospitals are beginning to close Covid departments.

In Israel, regions are also divided into red, orange, yellow, and green. Now in the country of Israel, there is not a single large city that would have the status of red or orange. Almost all cities are green, the only yellow city is Rakhat.
