Venedyktova excludes the conflict of interests in the Heavenly Hundred case

Former lawyer of ex-president of Ukraine Viktor Yanukovych, Oleksandr Babikov became the first deputy of Iryna Venedyktova, State Investigation Bureau (SIB) head, as the SIB reported.

Earlier, the media reported that Babikov became the deputy director of the body, while the confirmation was published on the website only on January 20. Yevhenia Zakrevska, the lawyer of families of the deceased activists of Maidan, noted that Babikov would deal with the investigation of the Heavenly Hundred Heroes case. Acting Head of the SIB assured that the conflict of interests would not take place.

“The detachment on Maidan cases obeys only to the SIB director, whose responsibilities I carry on today. All measures provided by the law were assumed; they aim not to admit the conflict of interests,” Venedyktova noted.

Oleksandr Babikov worked at Aver Lex law firm, which is known for the defense of Viktor Yanukovych.

It is known that Babikov is the graduate of Kharkiv Yaroslav Mudryi National Law University. Before Maidan, he headed Supervision over Bodies Department at Kharkiv regional prosecutor’s office. He worked on the fight against organized crime and corruption. In 2012, Babikov stated that Interpol put Arsen Avakov on the wanted list. As a lawyer, he defended the security guard of Viktor Yanukovych, Dmytro Ivantsov.
