Detectives of the NABU, National Anti-Corruption Bureau of Ukraine detained Mykola Chaus, the ex-judge of Dniprovsky district court of Kyiv. The man is now a suspect in bribetaking. Press office of the NABU reported that on August 3.
At the moment of the detention, the former judge was at Feofania hospital in Kyiv.
Chaus received the motion of the application of restriction measure; the Supreme Anti-Corruption Court is supposed to choose the measure on August 4. Until then, the suspect will be staying in the remand centre. As of 10 p.m. Tuesday, the NABU did not disclose any more details to keep the secrecy of investigation.
Earlier, it was reported that former judge Mykola Chaus kidnapped in Moldova was found wearing only his underwear in the village of Mazurivka, Vinnytsa region - not far from the border with Moldova. When Chaus arrived in the police unit, he reported that he was abducted by unknowns.
According to the lawyer of the judge, he did not get in touch with Chaus as he was taken to Kyiv.
Later, the NABU made it clear that Chaus was detained. However, nobody contacted the detectives to pass them the suspect.
Later, mass media reported that Chaus was detained by employees of the Security Service of Ukraine (SBU) and he was taken to Kyiv. The NABU also confirmed this information and published a video “chasing” the SBU car. The NABU stated that Chaus was in one of the cars.
On August 2, the lawyer of ex-judge Mykola Chaus stated that he prepares an appel on a change of investigative jurisdiction.
