Former Finance Minister Oksana Markarova's candidacy is considered for the post of Ukraine's new ambassador to the United States. It was nominated by Ukrainian Foreign Minister Dmytro Kuleba. He stated this on his Facebook page.
Kuleba believes that Makarova might become the first ambassador to Washington who is "well known to the US Administration, including the State Department and the Treasury, and the IMF.”
"Having weighed all the arguments, I proposed the candidacy of Oksana Markarova ... The fact that Markarova is sent only to extort money from the IMF is nonsense. The important truth is that Markarova will be the first female Ambassador of Ukraine to the United States. These are unconditional advantages,” said the Foreign Minister.
According to the official, the procedure for Markarova’s appointing to the post of ambassador has already been launched, now the relevant decree must be signed by President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky.
As we reported earlier, President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky and Kristalina Georgieva, Managing Director of the International Monetary Fund (IMF), discussed Ukraine's fulfillment of its obligations under the stand-by program as well as all the measures taken in order to overcome the constitutional crisis.
