The European Parliament has called upon the Ukrainian authorities to improve the country's electoral legislation by bringing it in line with international standards. This is mentioned in the section "Common values and general principles" of the resolution on Ukraine's implementation of the Association Agreement with the EU.
The relevant address was delivered by Michael Gahler (Germany), a member of the European People's Party. The vote took place on Wednesday as part of the EP plenary session.
"We insist on improving the Electoral Code and bringing in line with international standards so that it addresses issues such as social media campaigns, transparency of expenses on the election campaign, and access of independent candidates to the election process," the document said.
As we reported earlier, according to Vice President of the European Commission Valdis Dombrovskis, Ukraine needs to reach an agreement with the International Monetary Fund and apply eight structural measures in order to receive the second tranche of financial assistance in the amount of 600 million euros.
