The European Parliament has approved the resolution, which condemns Russia's aggressive actions in the Sea of Azov. Petro Poroshenko, Ukrainian president, reported this on Facebook.

'I welcome the approval of the important resolution of the European Parliament on the situation in the Black Sea! The Russian aggressor should realize that all of its actions in breach of the international law and bilateral agreements will be addressed by the democratic society, decisively and adequately. The EU and Ukraine will counteract the crawling annexation of the Sea of Azov and the breach of freedom of maritime traffic,' he wrote.

The President thanked MEPs for the initiative to assist the Ukrainian seaports and implementation of social and economic projects in the Ukrainian Azov.

According to DW, the resolution was approved at the plenary session in Strasbourg on Thursday. Most of the lawmakers supported it. The draft is the joint initiative of five factions in the Parliament.

The authority condemned the redundant blocking and inspections of commercial vessels by Russia, as they caused delays up to a week. 'These blockings breach the international maritime law and the international commitments of Russia', the document reads.

The European Parliament also reiterated that before the Kerch Bridge's opening, Russia's checks of vessels were selective and never violated the free movement of ships and cargo. The MEPs insist that Russia should not abuse this right or use it for political reasons.
