The European Commission plans to launch the negotiation about the entry of Albania and North Macedonia to the EU. Oliver Varhelyi, the EU Commissioner for Neighbourhood and Enlargement said so during the press conference in Strasbourg on Tuesday. Ukrinform news agency cited him.
"It is imperative that we build trust and breathe in a new life in the enlargement process. If our partners proceed with the reforms, the EU should also reach some results. It is the basis upon which we can achieve success in negotiations. De facto, the delay of the start of negotiations with Albania and North Macedonia has a negative impact on the EU authority", the official said.
At that, he added that the problems that are currently experienced in relations between Bulgaria and North Macedonia should be solved as soon as possible. And then, Varhelyi said, it will be possible to persuade the EU Council to give the green light for the first intergovernmental conferences with Noth Macedonia and Albania this year.
