The European Union's position on the link between sanctions against Russia and implementation of the Minsk agreement remains the same. This was stated by the EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Federica Mogherini at the 53rd Munich security conference, which was broadcasted by 112 Ukraine.
"You know that the EU supports Ukraine in many areas. For us the full implementation of the Minsk agreements is very important. As you know, we have introduced penalties for the illegal annexation of Crimea and the conflict in eastern Ukraine, and these sanctions are closely linked to the full implementation of the Minsk agreements. This position of EU will remain", she said.
At the same time, on the question of the inclusion of the US in Norman format, asked by the mayor of Kyiv Vitali Klitschko, Mogerini did not give a direct answer.
"I stopped long ago to focus on the formats, I focused on the subject and the result ... This format is currently faced with challenges, we are happy to help and support when it comes to finding a solution, rather than the format", said Mogherini.
Earlier Angela Merkel, the Chancellor of Germany, during Munich Security Conference stated that operation of Normandy contact group should be continued until full ceasefire is reached in Donbas.
