The European Union has activated the Civil Protection Mechanism to meet the needs of Ukraine in overcoming the effects of floods. This was reported by the press service of the European Commission.
The EU said that Sweden has already responded to Ukraine’s request, and is ready to provide 1.2 km of flood barriers, 250 hoses and technical experts. In addition to Swedish assistance, the European Commission will provide mapping services in the affected areas through the EU's Copernicus satellite system.
It is also noted that the 24-hour emergency response coordination center of the European Union is in constant contact with the Ukrainian authorities to monitor the situation.
In addition, the European Union is ready to send further assistance at the request of the Ukrainian authorities.
On June 25, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine turned to partner states, NATO and the European Union with a request for help in overcoming the effects of floods in the western regions.
As reported, in the west of Ukraine settlements are flooded due to bad weather. In particular, in the Zakarpattya region rescuers evacuated more than 200 people, gas and electricity supply ceased, because they could not stand the electrical supports.
