On Tuesday, November 9, the Council of the European Union decided to suspend the visa facilitation regime for Belarusian officials, the press service of the EU Council reports.

"The suspension covers the provisions that waive requirements for documentary evidence, regulate the issuing of multiple entry visas and reduce visa application fees as they apply to officials of the Belarus regime," the message reads.

It is noted that such a decision does not apply to ordinary citizens of Belarus, who can enjoy the same benefits under the visa facilitation agreement as before.

The decision will be published in the Official Journal and will take effect on the second day after publication.

As it was reported earlier, President of the European Commission Ursula von der Leyen called on the EU countries to approve an extended sanctions regime against Belarus due to the situation with migrants on the Polish border.
