The new Ukrainian government should succeed in the social sphere. Vice President of Association Committee Ukraine-EU Viola von Cramon-Taubadel said that to journalists in Strasbourg.
"But coming back to what kind of, let’s say, reforms we’d like to be supported – I also see that we need to have success in the social sphere. People expect this from the new Ukrainian government, also the improve of social standards and therefore I think the health reform was a very good example where in a short time of period people have registered as patients and that was good also because doctors knew what kind of services they were paid for, there was no corruption anymore, it was very good for decentralization and it is very good because you know what kind of services you get", she noted.
Von Cramon-Taubadel also emphasized that the European Union is waiting for the next step in the health reform in Ukraine.
"And now we’re still waiting for the second step of this reform to be implemented in the hospitals. And what we have seen myself and, let’s say others from the international sphere that around the new health minister, there were all people who were opposing the reform in the first moments. So I’m a little bit sceptic whether those are the people who would go for extension and continuation of this reform and this is important for the people to have better standards in the health system. And to fight corruption against very well and highly-corrupted some of these doctors in the clinics. So this is one thing and the other things is also the question of deoligarchization, this would be very big and very wide field how to tackle this. Well, let’s wait and see," the MEP added.
