Leaders of EU countries and governments will make the political decision to extend the sector economic sanctions against the Kremlin – for Russia’s aggression against Ukraine’s sovereignty and territorial integrity. A high-rank worker of an EU leading institution said that as quoted by Ukrinform news agency.

‘French President Emmanuel Macron and German Chancellor Angela Merkel will report on the latest information about the implementation of Minsk agreements in Ukraine. Then, we expect the formal decision about the extension of economic sanctions against Russia to be made as soon as possible,’ the interlocutor said.

The European Council is expected to approve the respective act on Monday. The decision will enter into force on January 31, 2018; sanctions will be effective until March 15, 2018.

The EU sanctions against Russia were imposed in July 2014, as a response to the annexation of Crimea by Russian troops.
