The European Union plans to impose sanctions on President of Belarus Alexander Lukashenko. Radio Liberty journalist Rikard Jozwiak wrote about this on his Twitter page.

"The council’s conclusions on Belarus that EU foreign ministers will approve on Monday are quite ambitious. It is explicitly mentioned that Lukashenko might be sanctioned next and opens up for increased eco support and there is an opportunity to strengthen support and dialogue on visa-free travel if the country moves to democracy,” the journalist noted.

As we reported earlier, Polish Foreign Minister Zbigniew Rau announces that a number of EU countries had decided to recall their ambassadors from Belarus for consultations.

"In coordination with the European External Action Service and Security Policy Service, as well as the EU member countries, we’ve made a joint decision to recall for consultations some of the ambassadors accredited to Belarus. I’d like to thank all EU partners for an unequivocal expression of solidarity with Poland and Lithuania," he said.
