The European Union sees no other way to peace in Ukraine, except for the full implementation of the whole range of measures provided for by the Minsk Agreements. This is stated in the official response of the European Council (the highest coordinating body of the EU) to the inquiry of Member of the European Parliament Maximilian Krah, which he submitted in connection with the peace initiatives of the Chairman of the Political Council of the Opposition Platform - For Life Party and MP Viktor Medvedchuk.
“The European Union continues to affirm that it will continue to support the independence, sovereignty, and territorial integrity of Ukraine within its internationally recognized borders. It has repeatedly made clear that the full implementation of the Minsk agreements is the only way to find a lasting and peaceful solution to the conflict in eastern Ukraine,” the document says.
MEP requested to state the position of the European Council regarding the obvious stall in the Donbas settlement process and Medvedchuk’s initiative to create a Parliamentary Dimension of the Norman format.
The Deputy Prime Minister and the first deputy head of the Ukrainian delegation to the Trilateral Contact Group, Aleksey Reznikov, took another step towards disrupting the peace process in Donbas. In his blog, he openly stated the course of Ukrainian authorities on the rejection of Minsk agreements.
