Turkish President Recep Tayip Erdogan asked the informal leader of Crimean Tatar people in Ukraine Mustafa Dzhemilev to pass him the list of Ukrainian political prisoners held in Russian penitentiary facilities. Dzhemilev said that in his interview with Radio Liberty.
'During our last meeting, which was July 12, me and President Poroshenko joined the ceremony of Transanatolian gas pipeline system. And I had another meeting with Erdogan. I told him there are over 70 of our political prisoners, so he and Putin should talk about their release. Before that conversation, I also spoke with Foreign Minister Cavusoglu. He said: 'Of course, we will take measures, just tell me at least a few names. I remembered Sentsov and Kolchenko...', Dzhemilev said.
After these talks, the Turkish Foreign Ministry asked Ukraine to file the full list of political prisoners.
'I think they will bring it up in the talks with Putin anyway. But how fruitful the negotiation would be?', Crimean Tatar leader concluded.
Earlier, Iryna Gerashchenko, the Vice Speaker of the Ukrainian Parlaiment, said that the Russian side has rejected the initiative of Ukraine to meet in Minsk for the discussion of the pass of 36 citizens of Russia in the exchange of the Ukrainians.
