End of Donbas war cannot happen at the cost of Ukraine’s sovereignty, - Estonia's President

Estonia's President Kersti Kaljulaid said that Ukraine and the international community should look for solutions to end the war in Donbas, but noted that this could not happen at the cost of Ukraine’s sovereignty. She voiced this opinion at a joint press conference with Ukrainian President Zelensky in Kyiv, the press service of the head of state reports.

Thus, the President of Estonia said that the war in eastern Ukraine and the occupation of Crimea are things that cannot be accepted. “And we will remind about it again and again at the international level,” Kaljulaid noted.

At the same time, she emphasized that Ukraine and the international community should look for solutions to end the war in Donbas, and the recent mutual release of detainees could be a “notable step on this path.”

“But this cannot happen at the cost of Ukraine’s sovereignty,” the Estonian president summed up.

For his part, Zelensky thanked his colleague for the categorical rejection of Russia's actions in Crimea and  Donbas.

“We greatly appreciate your active and firm position, both personal and state, in supporting our sovereignty, in condemning Russian aggression against Ukraine. And categorical rejection of the Russia's actions in Crimea and Donbas,” the head of state said.

Zelensky noted that Estonian President's visit to Kyiv is another manifestation of her strong support for Ukraine.

Earlier it was reported that Zelensky plans to pay an official visit to Estonia in October.
