Emigrant from Ukraine Inna Vernikov won the elections in New York. She entered the city council as voanews reported.

It is noted that Inna Vernikov is from Chernivtsi. She moved to the United States with her parents at the age of 12. She became a lawyer in America. After eight years of law practice in Brooklyn, the Ukrainian woman decided to try herself in local politics.

The lawmaker practice in the USA is paid, but the MPs receive little money. At the same time, the Ukrainian understood that after becoming a lawmaker, she would be forced to leave the practice of law. She says that money is not the main thing for her.

"The main thing is the changes that I can implement in the city…I do this because I love this country and am grateful for what it gives us. Also, as an emigrant, I am worried about what, as I see it, is happening with the country,” Vernikov says.
