The so-called “Donetsk People’s Republic” (DPR) plans to hold “election” of the republic’s head this autumn due to the death of Alexander Zakharchenko in the result of the terrorist act on August 31 as Interfax reported citing the source among the militant’s authorities.
He reminded that after holding of the election in “republic” should take place during the term that does not surpass 60 days since the proper decision was made.
“Thus, a new “head of republic” can be elected in the first half of November, possibly on November 6-7,” the source said.
The date of the possible “election” will be discussed and adopted by the “lawmakers of DPR” at the session of the “people’s council” on September 7.
Asc RBK reported, citing the source close to Kremlin and two interlocutors close to the “authorities of republics”, the election can take place in the so-called Luhansk People’s Republic” in parallel.
“The death of Alexander Zakharchenko is one of the factors that influence the discussion (of the “election”),” Vladyslav Brig, “the MP of the people’s council of DPR” said.
Kremlin decided that the elections should be held in both Donetsk and Luhansk People’s Republic.
In the beginning of 2018 was planned that the elections in occupied Donbas will take place in the autumn, however, in summer, it was decided to postpone them for indefinite term. According to the mass media, such decision was negotiated with Moscow. It was made due to the absence of the direct necessity to re-elect the “MPs and heads of republics”, risks for the Minsk Agreements, lack of funding.
Reportedly, on August 31, as a result of the explosion in the restaurant in the downtown of Donetsk, head of so-called “DNR” Aleksandr Zakharchenko died. The Russian mass media reported that Oleksandr Timofeyev, so-called "minister of revenue and duties" of so-called "DNR" has also died. The so-called “law enforcers” of the self-proclaimed Donetsk People’s Republic stated that they detained “Ukrainian saboteurs” who are presumably involved in the assassination of Zakharchenko. Although, SBU hasn’t approved the information.
ORDO, Separate district of Donetsk region, suspects one of the guards of Zakharchenko in his death. At the same time, the Russian MFA accused "Kyiv regime" in the death of Zakharchenko. It was reported on the closure of all crossing checkpoints along the Inter-Entity Boundary Line because of the incident. Russian President Vladimir Putin expressed his condolences over the murder of Zakharchenko.
On September 2, Zakharchenko was buried in Donetsk next to pro-Russian militants "Givi" and "Motorola".
