On Saturday, March 27, the Earth Hour will take place around the world. Ukraine will also join it. This was reported by the press service of the World Wildlife Fund, which is the direct organizer of the event.
Earth Hour is the world's largest initiative to support the conservation of the planet and the sustainable use of its resources. The event is celebrated annually on the last Saturday of March. This year it falls on March 27 at 20:30 local time.
The aim of the campaign is to unite efforts to preserve the nature of planet Earth. Such a measure, in addition to symbolically turning off the light, puts an emphasis on the need for every citizen's daily actions in the field of energy efficiency, economical use of energy resources to overcome the problem of climate change.
During Earth Hour at 20:30, the entire planet symbolically turns off the lights in homes, apartments, offices and near significant places and structures. Lights at the London Eye, the Sydney Theater, the Egyptian pyramids, the Golden Gate Bridge in San Francisco, the Colosseum in Rome will be also turned off. In more than 180 countries, a wide variety of events take place - from joint meditations to festivals, ECO fairs and runs - as symbols of hope for active action by each of us for a sustainable, environmentally friendly world.
In Ukraine, Earth Hour - 2021 is dedicated to old-growth forests.
On March 27 at 20:30, within the framework of the global Earth Hour - 2021, WWF-Ukraine on the website wwf.ua will open a national campaign to collect votes in support of the actions of state institutions and enterprises to preserve Ukrainian old-growth forests: their further identification, the implementation of scientifically based plans protection and the provision of sufficient funding to preserve them.
