On Saturday, September 25, Dutch police together with customs investigators arrested two Ukrainian sailors suspected of smuggling people off the coast of the North Sea. This is reported by Deutsche welle.
In particular, 11 Albanian migrants were on a sailing yacht under the control of captains from Ukraine. The vessel, detained off the coast of the city of Ouddorp, in the Dutch province of Zeeland, was heading for the UK.
According to police, the illegal immigrants first tried to board container ships in the ports of Ijmuiden, Hoek van Holland or Rotterdam.
Police note that the UK is in most cases the final destination of illegal immigrants' routes. Now smugglers are increasingly using sailing yachts to transport people.
As we reported, Lithuanian border guards in 2021 detained more than 2 thousand illegal migrants at the border with Belarus. Later, the Lithuanian government declared a state of emergency at the national level in connection with the increase in the flow of illegal migrants from Belarus.
