On June 19, about 50 people from occupied Luhansk got the Russian passports in Novoshakhtinsky, Rostov Oblast (20 km from the Russian-Ukrainian border), as Hromadske reported.
Thus, people are taken to the passport office by bus, accompanied by two “law enforcers” in civilian clothes. People, who got the documents today, have filed the documents a month ago.
It is noted that all people can get Russian citizenship; however, it was reported earlier that only workers of the budget spheres and military can obtain it.
The sign “special transport” is on the bus with the license plate of Luhansk People’s Republic. It is forbidden to make a photo of people inside the bus or to communicate with them. According to the passengers, they leave Luhansk at 6:00 a.m. and get the documents up to 1:00 p.m.
The passports are issued in the building of Novoshakhtinsky club, which was specially equipped for this even in April 2019.
“The journalists are not allowed to come in; however, those, who got the documents, say that they are checked with the metal detector; then, it is explained how to fill the documents; then the anthem of the Russian Federation plays and the “newly made” citizens take an oath,” the message said.
The place of registration is not filled in the Russian passports. According to the laws of Russia, it is necessary to get the registration in a week; however, the citizens of Luhansk said that they got the promise they will get the exception. However, it was not specified.
A lot of people, who came to obtain the Russian passport, have the passports of Ukraine and self-proclaimed Luhansk People’s Republic, some of them filed the application for the foreign passports of the Russian type. When people asked which benefits are provided with the Russian passport, they answer: “It is prestigious; we have some status in such a way.”.
It is reported that the second passport office works in Pokrovsk, Rostov Oblast. People are taken there from Donetsk People’s Republic. This office accepts documents only in occupied Donetsk and Luhansk.
On June 14, it was reported that the citizens of occupied Donbas began to get the passports of the Russian Federation registered in the simplified order in accordance with the April order of the Russian president.
Foreign Ministry of Ukraine condemned such measures stating about the intention to continue work on the imposing of proper sanctions against Russia.
Head of the EU Delegation in Ukraine Hugues Mingarelli stated that the EU leaders will discuss the issuance of the Russian passports to the citizens of occupied Donbas soon.
