The former militant of the so-called Donetsk People’s Republic Dmytro Trapeznikov was appointed acting mayor of the capital of the Republic of Kalmykia Elista. The decision to appoint the city mayor was made by the city council on September 26. Kavkaz.Realities reports this.
The appointment of Trapeznikov to the position of Elista mayor provoked the outrage of the residents of the city. They gathered a rally demanding to cancel this decision.
“The purpose of the meeting is to look at each other and make it public on social networks. For the people to post photos from the rally - and so that more citizens will learn about what is happening. We demand the removal of Trapeznikov from his position, and if this is not done, then on October 1 we will come to the city hall,” the initiator of the event, journalist Badma Burchiev said.
The speaker of city council Nikolai Orzayev tried to explain this to the citizens who had come out to the protest. Orzayev said that Trapeznikov had a good education, he was a good specialist, but these words outraged the protesters even more.
The audience did not have posters or equipment, there was only a stand with the inscription “This is our city,” and a petition demanding the removal of Trapeznikov from the office, which on September 29 gathered 1516 signatures.
Since 2014, Trapeznikov held various leadership positions in the administration of the head of the so-called Donetsk People's Republic. In August-September 2018, he was acting head of the so-called Donetsk People's Republic after the assassination of the former leader of the unrecognized republic, Alexander Zakharchenko.
