President of France Emmanuel Macron made a big emphasis on relations with Russia during his annual speech to French diplomats. It is reported by the Yevropeyska Pravda with reference to Euractiv.

During the appeal, Macron said that "Europe will disappear if it does not reconsider its strategy towards Russia."

Given that the United States, Russia and China are fighting for hegemony, Macron emphasized that Europe can either decide "to be allies of a minority of one or the other, or take part in the game."

"We will not be able to restore Europe without restoring ties with Russia, otherwise Russia will approach other powers," he said.

"Some of our allies will always push us to introduce large sanctions, but this is not in our interests. We need to build an architecture of trust in Europe," the French president added.

Macron said that he considers it necessary to intensify diplomatic work in the Russian direction and to reconsider relations with this country, otherwise one can find himself amidst the Cold War.

The French leader also confirmed that in the next few days, French ministers of defense and foreign affairs, Florence Parly and Jean-Yves Le Drian will visit Russia to restore the 2+2 format talks.

Previously, the Russian side claimed that the visit will take place on September 9.

Earlier, Macron said Russia could be invited as a guest of the next G7 summit that is to take place in the U.S in 2020.
