In Madrid, hundreds of people went to a demonstration against the referendum in Catalonia and in support of Spain's unity. This is reported by El Pais.
People came to one of the main squares of Madrid - Plaza Mayor. In their hands they keep the flags of Spain, the participants chant slogans in support of unity. As noted, later they organized a march in the direction of the Puerta del Sol.
Earlier we reported that police officers started firing rubber bullet near one of the polls for a referendum on Catalonia independence.
The Spanish government also wrote on Twitter that 38 people were wounded in the clashes with the police.
“38 people asked for medical help, three of them are seriously injured,” the statement says.
A referendum on Catalonia independence is held today, at the backdrop of clashes with the police. The Spanish government doesn’t recognize the referendum and called it illegal. The law enforcers are trying to prevent the referendum from happening.
