Defense Ministry employee spying for Russia arrested in Kyiv

The Security Service of Ukraine detained an employee of one of the strategic enterprises of the Ministry of Defense in Kyiv, who was spying for Russia. This is reported on the SSU website.

The detainee was informed of the suspicion of committing a crime and a preventive measure in the form of detention was chosen.

In the framework of open criminal proceedings under Part 1 of Art. 111 (high treason), investigative actions continue.

A native of Russia, colonel of the reserve of the Armed Forces of Ukraine in July 2017 while staying in in Russia was recruited by the Russian military intelligence officer.

For monetary compensation, the former Ukrainian military collected data with limited access in the defense sphere of our state for the transfer of information to Russian curators.

"The special services of the Russian Federation, in particular, interested in information on the implementation of state defense orders and development of new systems of unmanned aircraft detection used during the anti-terrorist operation in the east of Ukraine", said in a statement.

In addition, the agent was trying to buy a Ukrainian-made drone to be sent to Russia for aerial reconnaissance.

Law enforcers
have documented, that the link with the "curators" spy exercised traveling to the territory of the Russian Federation and with the help of e-mail correspondence. After completing the "tasks", the spy planned to leave for the aggressor country and obtain Russian citizenship.

Employees of the SSU detained a spy in Kyiv at the workplace. During the searches on the places of work and residence of the person involved in the case, law enforcement officers seized materials confirming his unlawful activities.
