Secretary of the National Security and Defense Council Oleksiy Danilov is confident in the ability of the Ukrainian army to return Donbas and Crimea by force. He stated this in an interview with Radio Svoboda.
"Our Armed Forces are able to clear the territory of Donetsk and Luhansk regions. We can fight for the territory of Crimea. But it must be borne in mind that we cannot allow tens, hundreds of thousands of people to die during such military operations. Because we just have an understanding of where this border is. But this does not mean that, if necessary, we will not use it," Danilov noted.
According to him, the National Security and Defense Council has developed five scenarios for the development of events in Crimea and Donbas - at the moment Ukraine follows the first one. It consists in the desire to return the territory by political and diplomatic means.
"Next we will see what happens," the official added.
Meanwhile, President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky surmises there is a chance of a full-scale war with Russia.
"If there's a powerful escalation from the Russian side - that's the most horrific thing there is. Unfortunately, there is such a chance," Zelensky said.
However, if it comes to this, it will be a tragic mistake for Moscow, Ukrainian leader added. According to him, in this case, "Ukraine will show no more friendly attitude to Russia and Belarus".
