Defendants in case of Handziuk’s murder left in custody

Kyiv Appeal Court has left in a custody the defendants in case of the murder of activist Kateryna Handziuk, Vladyslav Manger and Oleksiy Levin as the court reported.

“On July 26, 2021, the panel of judges of the Appeal Court has considered the appeals filed by the defense against the decision of the investigating judge of Dniprovsky district court of Kyiv dated June 30, 2021, which extends the detention of defendants M. and L. until August 28, 2021 without the possibility of bail,” the message says.

According to the results of the appeal consideration of the regulation of the judge of Dniprovsky district court of Kyiv dated June 30 is left without changes, appeal of defense was not granted.

As we reported earlier, on November 4, 2018, it became known that Kateryna Handziuk died at the age of 34. She was doused with sulphuric acid in July this year. According to preliminary information, her death was caused by blood clot's detachment. 

Besides, the doctors specified the cause of death; it was due to multiple organ failure and chemical burns.

Currently, Olexiy Levin, Head of Kherson Regional Council Vladyslav Manger and ex-assistant of MP Ihor Pavlovsky are the persons of interest in the case. Ihor Pavlovsky was detained on January 20, 2020.

Vladyslav Manger and Olexiy Levin are suspected in the organization of the serious physical injury by prior agreement of the group of people that led to the death of a person. They face up to 10 years of imprisonment.
